Protect our children

Parental control software

In our effort to keep explicit content away from minors, we have created this document to help parents understand how to protect their children from inappropriate/mature content online.

The first step to protecting your children is to install parental control software on your computer. Some of the most well-known and respected child protection software packages are CyberPatrol, Net Nanny, and Safety Surf.

How does parental control software work?

Parental control software blocks access to certain websites and online content. In most cases, when you purchase the software it already contains a large list of websites that are unsuitable for children. You can then update the software via the manufacturer's website or in some cases the software updates itself.

Another way to filter software is to search for websites based on keywords such as "vagina", "penis" or to block “sex”. However, filtering software doesn't just have to block access to adult material. You can configure the software to filter for topics such as tobacco, drugs and drug culture, alcohol, violence and racism. Most households have more than one computer or device for surfing the Internet. Please install the software on all devices on which you can surf the Internet. Secure all devices and software with a password.

We assume no liability for inappropriate content

Installing filtering software is no guarantee that children will not be exposed to inappropriate material online. New websites are added every day. Therefore, it is important to keep your software up to date. Also, learn how your Internet browser software works so you can check the web pages your family has visited (this is the "History" feature, which displays a list of web pages visited through the web browser).

Talk to your children about possible dangers on the Internet! Information and monitoring internet browsing are still the best ways to protect them.

Talk to your children about the following

  • Don't tell strangers you meet online about yourself or your family. < / li >
  • People on the Internet can easily pretend to be someone else. In fact, they could be predators trying to abuse children. < / li >
  • Teach them that they should never meet a new online friend without an adult present. < / li >
  • You should never exchange pictures with anyone and, if in doubt, always consult a trusted person. < / li > < / ul >
